1. Adult Basic Education.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) offers free classes to employees who don’t have adult-level English or math literacy skills needed for everyday life. The US Department of Labor manages the ABE program. This job training program gives working adults the skills they need to hold jobs and be responsible citizens.

Those eligible for ABE must be at least 16 years old and not enrolled in high school. Candidates must show that their current math, writing and reading levels are below the 12th-grade level. ABE also teaches other basic skills such as reading and English for non-native speakers.

2. Apprenticeship

An apprenticeship is a paid training opportunity that helps you learn a specific skill or skillset. Job candidates can find apprenticeships in many industries, such as construction, healthcare, or manufacturing. Apprenticeships may last between one and four years.
